Dr. Furuichi received his B.L.A. in Computer Science from Hiroshima University in 1982, his M.S. in Computer Science from University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign in 1994, and his Doctorate of Engineering from Keio University in 2004. Dr. Furuichi worked for Mitsubishi Electric Corporation from 1982 to 2008. While working at the Information Technology R&D center (ITR&D) and Kamakura Works of Mitsubishi Electric, his major research topics were parallel and distributed simulation, dynamic load-balancing, parallel object oriented languages and the design and implementation of IEEE 1516 High Level Architecture RTI (RunTime Infrastructure) for Modeling and Simulation. After playing an important role as a senior research scientist and a chief engineer in the modeling and simulation business, Dr. Furuichi moved on to Nihon University to expand his modeling and simulation knowledge to serious game design based on distributed virtual environment technology. In 2012, he was featured in a NHK program called “Do you know Serious Games? – BAKUMON-GAKUMON”, and this program increased the degree of recognition of serious games in Japan. In order to boost this recognition more, Dr. Furuichi has been working for Serious Game Jams and Serious and Applied Game Summit with Prof. Yoshihiro Kishimoto of Tokyo University of Technology. His serious games known at exhibitions and in TV programs are Line Ho!ckey, MU3-Table (Fig.1), NARIAGARE, Sengoku-FUSE (Fig. 2), and others. Dr. Furuichi is a member of IEEE, ACM, IEICE and IPSJ.Research Achievements1)TRISim:TRIage Simulation System to Exploit and Assess Triage Operation for Hospital Managers - Development, Validation and Experiment -, Computer Modeling in Engineering & Science (CMES), Vol. 113, No. 2, pp. 121–153, 2017.2)A Proposal of ARCS Extended Model of Motivational Design and an Application to a Development Method for Educational Materials, Journal of Digital Games Research, Vol. 9, No. 2, pp. 15–29, 2017.3)A Proposal of Intangible AR Manual for Improvement of Training Effects and Working Efficiency, Bulletin of JSSD, Vol. 63, No. 6, pp. 27–36, 2017.4)Development of an Effective Pedestrian Simulator for Research, Advances in Human Aspects of Transportation, Vol. 484, pp. 183–191, 2016. 5)Fluid Flow Simulation Using Particle Method and its Physics-based Computer Graphics, Computer Modeling in Engineering & Science (CMES), Vol. 83, No. 1, pp. 57–72, 2012.
