He received his BEng and MEng in mechanical engineering from the Tokyo University of Science in 1991 and 1993, respectively, and his PhD from the Tokyo Institute of Technology in 2000. He worked at the Ministry of Defense from 1993 to 2009. While working at the Acquisition, Technology & Logistics Agency (ATLA), his major research topics were unmanned ground vehicles, mine clearance, facility equipment, and modeling and simulation for the Self-Defense Forces. After retiring in 2009, he moved to Nihon University to expand his knowledge on unmanned vehicles, robotics, mechatronics, and mechanism design for humans. His current research topics are information gathering robots, maintenance robots, welfare equipment, communication design, regional promotion design, and KAWAII design.
