He received his BEng, MEng, and PhD in Chemical Engineering in 1987, 1989, and 1992, respectively, from the Tokyo Institute of Technology. His research interests include risk assessment for large systems, including human behavior, and conservation with material damage considerations. He served as a division head of the Industrial/Chemical Machinery and Safety Division of the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers. Dr. Mitomo is a member of the Technical Committee on Human Centered Transportation Systems of IEEE SMC, JSME, and others.
