- -31The Eect of Temperature and Humidity on the Thermal Characteristics of Tetrazole DerivativesSatoru YOSHINO, Tomoe KOMORIYA, Keiichi SAKAMOTOEnergetic materials such as nitrates and azole compounds are used as gas generating agents for airbag systems, whereby the bag expands due to the combustion generated gas of the gas generator. Gas generating agents are installed in auto-mobiles for a long period of time, and they are required to reliably generate gas in the event of an emergency. Therefore, it is important to understand the stability of the gas generating agents in the environmental conditions to which they are exposed. To examine the stability of a sample due to temperature and humidity, an accelerated test is conducted in which the substance is exposed to severe conditions, and the thermal characteristics and chemical structure of the sample before and after exposure are confirmed. The target materials were 5,5’-bistetrazole diammonium salt (BHT) and 5-aminotetrazole (HAT), which have been used as gas generating agents. The samples were exposed to a constant temperature and humidity chamber, and the characteristics of the samples before and after exposure were examined by thermal analysis and spectroscopic analysis. The exposure conditions (temperature and humidity) were 30°C, 85% RH and 85°C, 85% RH, and each sample was exposed for 14 days.
