3. Statement of facts contained in sub-paragraphs g, h, i, j, and k above have been read to the officer and enlisted men whose names appear on inclosure 3 to further substantiate the correctness of the statements. The statement of facts contained in paragraphs g, h, i, j, and k, of Major Friersonʼs statement have been read to me and to the best of my knowledge they are believed to be true and correct: PENCHAN, Benjamin, 1st Lt, 0-1587528 FORD, Thomas E., Pvt. RA 18319706 WRIGHT, Janes W., Pfc, RA 14225943 SCHAEFFERKOETTER, Victor H., Pfc, RA 17225571 STANAWAY, Ivan G., Cp1, RA 16232231 STEINHART, Edward E., Pfc, RA 33511588 KROBOTH, John J., Pfc, RA 13261774 1. The urns containing the cremated remains were transported under guard to the Eighth Army Liaison Air Strip and placed aboard a liaison plane piloted by one of the Eighth Army liaison pilots, with myself as a passenger. We proceeded to a point approximately 30 miles over the Pacific Ocean east of Yokohama where I personally scattered the cremated remains over a wide area in accordance with letter GHQ, FEC, AG 293, (28 June 48), QM-M, 13 August 1948. 2. No unusual incidents occurred while the remains were being transported from Sugamo Prison to the area occupied by the 108th QM Graves Registration Platoon, nor from the platoon area to the crematorium, with the exception of a few news photographers who were stationed near the entrance to Sugamo Prison area, and a few at scattered points between Tokyo and Yokohama, all of whom photographed the trucks of the convoy. At the entrance to the crematorium eight news photographers representing the Japanese press had stationed themselves in hopes of procuring pictures. However, they were not insistent in their requests after I had explained to them that I had no authority to allow photographs, even of the trucks or personnel in the convoy. These photographers all departed and no photographs were made of the vehicles or any of the personnel so far as is known by me.
