─ 38 ─informal, with students seated in circles at tables unless the circumstances require other arrangements. The activities are facilitated by the professors and students are encouraged to assume leadership roles in organization and explanation as much as possible. The participants understand that language used in the pro-gram is English. All students, even those of the lowest pro-ciency, abide by that rule. As shown in Tables 1 and 2, the activities cover all four communication skills (reading, writ-ing, speaking and listening) and range from games to discus-sions to presentations, with the primacy given to oral commu-nication skills. Because the students attending can vary from week to week, the activities have to be adaptable, which ts in well with the informal nature of the program. Nevertheless, for those students who do attend weekly, the activities are de-signed to build on speaking skills learned in previous sessions.
